Simplified Nutrition Facts Format

You can use the simplified Nutrition Facts format if 8 or more of the following are present in insignificant amounts:

  • Calories
  • Total fat
  • Saturated fat
  • Trans fat
  • Cholesterol
  • Sodium
  • Total carbohydrate
  • Dietary fiber
  • Total sugars
  • Added sugars
  • Protein
  • Vitamin D
  • Calcium
  • Iron
  • Potassium.

If the simplified format is available, you will see a message informing you of how many ingredients you have with insignificant (or zero) amounts.

“Uncheck the items that are not present. You currently have 8 unchecked.”

The application will add an appropriate footnote depending on your selections. See 21 CFR 101.9(f) for more information about when the simplified format may be used on a food label.

For insignificant amounts, see this post.
